On the latter charge both were convicted, William Ward being fined £2 and 6,6 co-t>, and Thos. Bayne £1 and costs. Ward had gone to the- scb.oolb.ousc in the morning afte* a tangi, and remained throughout the day. Bayne, aggrieved at his daughter being sent home fcccause she wotf.d not work, went tj tne school in an angry and excited tnood and asked the teacher to hgbt.
