DAIRY PRODUCE FREIGHTS.
IMPORTANT REDUCTION. PRODUCERS BENEFIT BY COMPETITION, An agreement has been arranged by tho National Dairy Association with the New Zealand Shipping Co. and the Shaw, Savill and Albion Co., contractors under the fortnightly shipping arrangement with the association 10 carry dairy produce to Loudon at practically tho same rates as those charged by tho Federal Co. The old rate was 2/6 a box for butter (gross weight 661b), and id per .b for chese. The- reduction is 10 i/g a box on butter, or a little more man Jd per lb, and to fd per lb on cheese, tho same rates as those charged by the Federal Co. Coast freight, as hitherto, is included in the revised tariff. The reductions are made to members of the National Dairy Association only, and providing all their produce is snipped through the contracting companies. The former freight nominally standsj the reductions being given by way of rebates. The amended tariff, it is expected, will cover the whole of the season's shipments. The saving thus effected will, on the basis of last season's shipments, amount to over ,£24,000. Of course, only a portion of this will go into the pockets of tne producers, owing to tho large amount of this season's dairy produce, particularly butter, sold outright.
