HARBOR BOARD.

The ordinary monthly mteting" of the New Plymouth Harbor Board wa> held on Friday. There were present, Messrs J. B. Connett (Chairman), Geo. McLean, Jas. Thomson, R. Price, J. Ward, R. W. Hornby, Hine, junr., and E. Maxwell. All apology for non attendance was read from Mr Newton King.

VANDALISM. The Foreman reported on the damage done on the harbor works and quarrie.- on a recent Sunday. Mr Connc't said there was only one way to stop this, and he was loth to do it—that was to prohibit any person from going on the place at all. He knew (that i : ii was a favorite walk with a section of the public.

Mr Price suggested appointing a watchman on Sundays. The Chairman said that probably there would be no further mischief for some time, as the pcrpotiatoTs would expect a watch to be put on the place. There had been a lire there some years ago which had never been explained, and it seemed necessary ( o warn people away. He moved that a notice board be erected, to the effect tluu tresspassers be prosecuted.—Seconded by Mr Ward and carried. ELECTRIC LIGHTING.

The Chairman reported that the Harbormaster had informed the Borough Council cf the Board's lighting requirements, but no reply had yet been teceived concerning the Council's proposals to light the harbor and wharf. • Delay was doubtless caused by the resignation of Mr Brooking as chairman of the Council's electric lighting committee.

GENERAL. Messrs Kayo and Carter offered for sale a couple of 400-ton hopper barges at £2500 each at Freemantle. The Board has no use for such vessels.

The Railway Department, Wanga nui, wrote that certain articles required couid be obtained from Wellington. —To be acted upun. It was decided to charge a rental of 0/ weekly to the owner of the fish stand on tlu> Egmont-Ariki street cor-er; and to allow Mr Mannix, contractor for Messrs E. Griffiths and Co.'s new buildings, to stack material on the Board's section 011 pavment of £2. Mr Saunders, of Auckland, wrote that he was prepared to purchase for cash the old hawsers, of which, he undersoocl the Board had 50 tons on hand.—Tho Harbormaster said-he had about two tons. lie had always obtained ten shi.lings a ton for it from the N.S.S. Co., and had placed some with the Waitara l-'ieezing Works. Iff did not think the N.S.S. Co. needed any more.—Left with the secretary and Harbormaster. FINANCE.

The accounts for payment totalled £IBSO 16/3. Ihe i reasurer reported an overdraft at (he Bank of .£6508 0/2. Receipts since last meeting included: Rents (half year) £572 S/, wharfage to 10th November /I4SIJ 8/4, shippingdues £320 0/0.
