Mr G. C. Fair, manager of the Taranaki Petroleum Company, is suffering from a severe attack of influenza. Mr and Mrs W. A. Calhro returned to New Plymouth by Friday evening's train.
Tlie Hon. A. Pitt passed a very good night on Thursday. His condition yesterday morning was very much improved, and the improvement continued during the day, and he was able for tlie first time since the operation to take with, safoty more nourishing food. He was very muck better in spirits, and altogether is in a fair tray to recovery. —Press wire.
Mr and Mrs F. G. Hume were tire guests of the Neiv Plymouth Lawn Tennis acd Croquet Club on Friday evening at a dance held in the Brougham street halt. There was a large attendance of members to show their appreciation of the valuable services
rendered to the club by the guests, who leave uext week for Wellington, Mr Mclvinnon Barn's orchestra supplied the music.
The funeral of the late Harry Smith, Inspector of Schools, took place at Greymouth yesterday, and was very largely attended. Deceased was accorded ti military and masonic funeral. The Teachers' Institute intend starting a fund among the children to raise a | suitable monument to his memory.— Press wire.
A Press Association message from Wellington states that Mr McCurdy, Colonial Secretary of the Farmers' Union, has resigned that position owing, it is understood, to a difference of opinion with the Advisory Board in regard to the policy oi the latter in connection with tlie Goyernment Land Bill.
