BOOKMAKERS IN COURT.

PINES AND IMPRISONMENT. . (Per Press Association). Cfbistchumi, November 10. At the Magistrate's Court to-day, a number of bookmakers were charged with trespass on the Christchurch, racecourse and refusing to quit whoa ordered to do so.

John Smith was sentenced to one month on each of three charges, W, fltood to one month on each of four, E.J, Marsden pleaded guilty to four charges. Counsel said Marsden had paid £SO in fines already, and been sentenced to two months, in default of paying a fine of £25. Accused had no criminal proclivities outside this fault. Lite Bench said there was no excuse tor a man taking no heed of previous punishments, and sentenced accused to two months' imprisonment on each charge, the terms to be concurrent. George Driver and J. Seatreo were lined lus each, and costs. Alfred Drake, a first offence, wa* lined 40s and costs.

James Matson, A. Butler, S Isaacs and William Barry were fined £5 each und costs.

J. Cutliberlson was sent to gaol for 14 days on each of four charges, John Koss was lined £lO. Other cases were dismissed.
