I TQ THE EDITOR. Sib,—l notice that Mr Mark Hopson's letter remains unanswered, and therefore tho ratepayers will doubtloss accept his version of the county financing rather than Mr Okey's. It is a pity the correspondence fizzled out so quickly, for it really looked as though we were going to have a little light thrown 011 the dark places ot tho Council's career. The chairman's long statement the other day cold us nothing of the Council's working, of its finance, or of its muddles; but perhaps Mr Okey or Mr Hopson can tell why the Council has only just decided to sue for the Tariki road special rate, after paying it out of general revenue for the past sixteen or seventeen years. If either gentleman o«n oxplain, will he do so ? For various reasons, I prefer not to sign my name at this stage,—l aui, etc. SDM'eke;B,
