Patrick Scanlan, one of the proprietors of the auctioneering e»tab 1 aliment in which the fire originated, was closely examined as to the condition of the business and as to the 'nurease of the insurance from £3OO to .£(100. The insurance ran out on the 26th inst, and the fire occurred on the 22nd inst. Witness could not produce any records to show the quantity of stock, and had no clear idea as to the financial position of the business. The records wei'o destroyed in tho fire. He had been an old age pensioner three years ago, but his position had improved since, and he put £IOO into the business,.
