TARANAKI COALFIELDS.
PROPOSED GEOLOGICAL' SURVEY. Per Press Association. Wellington, October it. In the Legislative Council this morning the Hon. T. Kelly moved that m the opinion of the Council a; geological survey be made by the Geological Survey Department as soon as their existing arrangements will permit - of the extensive coalfield as shown by outcrops of coal on the country lying between the Mokau River and the point where the Ohura River joins the Wanganui River, and through which the railway line from, Stratford to Kawakawa when completed passes for 25 miles. The Hon. J. D. Ormond suggested the addition of the words "and that the Council desires to ask the Government to acquire such portions, of the district as are not required ba the Nativo owners." The Attorney-General, while he] pointed out that the present arrangement to systematically carry out a, geological survey could not be materially disturbed, offered no objections to the motion, which was carried onj the voices, with the addition sues gested by Mr Ormond.
