SEAMEN AND ARBITRATION COURT.
Wellington, October -17, _ The conference passed a resolution endorsing protests made by the Wellington, Auckland, and Dunedin branches against the scant attention paid to the evidence adduced by the Union in the recent dispute with the steamship owners, and expressing strong disapproval of the injustice done to members of the Union, and regret that a Court of Arbitration in New Zealand could see its way, consistent with justice and equity, to r&fuse to New Zealand seamen the increase of wages and other important concessions which have been voluntarily conceded by the shipowners of Australia, where the conditions of shipping are less favourable to the employers than they are in Now Zealand. The Council also decided to difect public attention to the faict thai the Court has seen fit to place a largo body of New Zealand workers x in a position considerably below that of similar workers in Australia.
