WELLINGTON HARBOUR FACILITIES.
PETONE PROPOSALS. Per Press Association. Wellington, October 15. A deputation from Petone waited on the Minister for Railways urging that the Government purchase the Hutt Park railway line owned by a company which had used the line for connecting with the Hutt racecourse (which was. not now used as a racecourse). It was pointed out if the Government would secure the line and all its rights, the Wellington Harbour Board would proceed with the construction of a railway wharf at Petone which would cost over £IO,OOO. This wharf would still further assist in the development of Petone and the Hutt. It was understood that the Hutt Park Railway Company would sell out its line and all righw for £2OOO. The Hon. Mr Hall-Jones, replying ,said the Government was offered the line by the company some three years ago, but the Government was not inclined then to purchase. The decision of the Harbour Board to " construct a railway wharf was a new factor now, and he thought such a wharf would be a good thing for Wellington as well as Petone, as it might relieve the congestion on the Wellington wharves. The Minister promised to consult with his officers on the subject of the deputation, and would then bring the matter before the Cabinet. *
