The weather this spring has been, 'xccptionally dry, in fact, it is the driest spring that has been experier.c.d for many years, so that the , rain which fell on Saturday and Sunday nights, was very welcome. Prior to thi- rain the clearings were drier , than at any time during last season, and a number of settlers look advantage of a breeze to burn oft' un Sal- ' tirday morning. Claik has completed his contract for the Saunder's Hill deviation on the Kahui road. This contract proved much more difficult than was anticipated, as some enormous rocks wore encountered, and a good deal of blasting was required. The Rahotu Rifle Club commenced another competition for a trophy al their ritle range on Saturday. This trophy has to be won twice in success- | ion or three times at intervals to be- | come the property of any member. , Mr G. llughson won the first com- t petition on Saturday.
