PARAPARA LEASE UNDER CONSIDERATION.
(Pci I'ress Association.) Wellington, October 9. In the House yesterday afternoon a ' n \r S ™ ss '"n ensued on clause 4 of t.ie Mining Act Amendment Bi'l, m«allying the I'arapara Leases, but protecting them for 2S years against the Government right to purchase their works.
The discussion continued with attempts at alteration—
(1) By repealing the provision giving the Government the option cf pur- V chase in all leases (defeated by 0 to 3'j)-
(2) Making the exception of Parapara common to all leases (defeated by SO to 13).
(.3) Striking out the names of tho Pub ic Trustee and the 'ate Sir A. Jerumo Cnhnan (defeated on the voices-, Mr R. MacKenzie was the mover -very time,
When tho House* resumed in the evening, Mr R. MacKenzie moved an amendment for the addition of a proviso to clause 4 to the effect that all leases shall have the same protection is tho Parapara Lease. This was lost :>>' 42 to 18.
Mr R. MacKenzie then moved to report progress, the motion being defeated, and clause 4 was added unaltered to the Bill by 57 to 14, and the Bill was reported to tho House.
