Edward Taylor was charged with being an idle and disorderly person wandering abroad and begging alms in New Plymouth on October 6th last. Sergeant Haddrell staled the man had borne an excellent character as a hard-working man, but last week ho got drunk and was under the influence of liquor for some days, had repeatedly accosted people for alms, and Wils in "a disgusting state when arretted. The accused, who seemed penitent enough, asked for another chance. He would go away in the baekblocks, and would consent to the issue of a prohibition order. The order was granted, and accused convicted and discharged. In the case BNieU v. C"ck, winch was adjourned from a previous sitting, oh account of the' defendant's failure t° appear, non-appearance was again registered on Monday, and Mr Hughes, for the plaintiff, asked that a fine be inflicted. The defendant had been notified cf the adjournment, and he should be shown mat lie could not with impunity put people to iwh an amount of expense and inconvenience as in this case. There had been no maintenance paid from January until this summons was Issued, and the woman in whose custody the) child was placed had been put to considerable expense. A fine of 10/ and costs was inflicted. In addition to the cases settled, confessed, or adjourned, judgment was given by defau't in the following case,s; —John Love v. James Rogers, claim £5 12/, cost, 23/6 (Mr Wilkes for plaintiff); Egmont Boot and Shoe Co .Mr WiJson) v. R. T. Wearne, claim £37 15/3, on dishonoured promissory nolo, costs £2 14/. The Magistrate; gave his ; reserved judgment in the cases brought by the Taranaki Bacon Coim regard to calls. In the capes of Vickcry, Jury, and MoKenzie judgment was given for defendants, In the cases of Raill ajid Skolton judgment went to plaintiffs. Mr llutchen was granted leave to appeal in McKenzic's ease. Counsel agreed to judgment being recorded against Long-staff Julian and Skflton for three calls.
