STRATFORD.
•ROM OTJR OWN CORRESPONDENT.
On Saturday, Mr George Derby, f Toko, showed me a beautiful piece of work in the form of a Maltese lace collar, the material used being prepared flax. The flax from which *he fibre, which is exceedingly fine, was prepared was grown at Toko, and the whole process of making the fine fibre wafs executed by Mrs G. Williams, Mr Derby's mother, who also did Ihe excellent work. A large specimen of Mrs Williams' work has been sent to the Christjqhurch Exhibition, wlwre I am sure it will be greatly admired and will prove to what splendid uses our flax can be put. If such work were exhibited to our manufacturers at Home there is no doubt but that a greater interest would be taken by them in our flax industry, as (lie whole of the exhibit sent by Mi's Williams has been prepared by hand, no machinery being used. In Holy Trinity Church, on Sunday, the Rev C. A. B. Watson unveiled a handsome brass memorial tablet dedicated to the late Ernest. A. Sole (son of our respected twonsman, Mr C. D. Sole), who died three months ago. The tablet was erected by the parishioners of Holy Trinity Church, and in a striking testimony to the regard and esteem in which the deceased and his parents are held by their co-parishioneifs. Constable Hyde, iof Stratford,) received \\ telegram thfs morning from his si'ster, stating that her husband, Mr Herbert Berry, and her son Os- ] wald, had been drowned at Blenheim [ yesterday.
