The death occurred at How Plymouth on Saturday of Mrs Bates, wife of Mr H, N. Bates, proprietor of the Stores' Company. Deceased was 49 years of age. The funeral of the late Mr James Paul on Sunday afternoon was one of the largest scon m ISew Plymouth for many years past, representative peopfe from nil parts of the proymee attending to pay their last tribute of respect, file cortege took eight minutes to pass a given point in Lemon street, and was composed very largely of mourners on foot. The lloral tributes received were verv numerous, liev. S. S. Osborne olliciated at the graveside.
The marriage of the "Primate of JN T ew Zealand (Bishop Nevill) to Miss Linda Evncs-Clititon, 111 England last week, came as a surprise to tlie friends of the contracting parties in Milton (says the •' Mirror"). As a girl, the bride lived in Milton for some years, her father being the Key. Fynes-Clinton, vicar of St. John's Church. She acted as companion to the late Mrs .Nevill, who died twelve months ago. The Primate is over three score and ten and Mrs iN'evill is not yet thirty years of age,
