THE LAND PROBLEM.
(Pei I'ress Association.) Mastebton, October 4. At a meeting of the Master-ton branch of the Farmers' Union to-day, ihe following resolution was passed: —" That this branch urge the GoTern.nent to deal with and bring into occupation the Native lands of the colony, is they are becoming a hot lied of wxious weeds." The Land Dill was discussed at considerable length, and the following resolution passed:— •' That while it would be most injurious and a gross breach of faith to interfere with, or in any way compromise existing land titles, it is .manifestly inccnsistent that owners and occupiers of ttighly improved and large productive freehold estates, that are contributing largely to the revenue of the country, should be liable to be disturbed or be restricted in dealing with their land, m the face of such a yast extent of Native land remaining idle and nuproJuctive, and this branch of the Farmers' Union enters its emphatic protest igainst legislation in tho direction indicated by tho Land Bill now before Parliament."
