FROM OlTl OWN CORRESPONDENT. A well attended meeting of farmers and others interested in the Land Bill now before Parliament was held in the Town Hall on Thursday afternoon 'o discuss the Bill. Mr Stevenson (Pihama) presided. After com siderable discussion it was resolved. 011 the motion of Mr ft. Lambie. and seconded by Mr Cross, "That this representative meeting of farmers protest* strongly against the Land Bill now before Parliament, and requests the Member for the disrict to use every means in his power to prevent the measure from becoming law, without first an appeal to the electors of the colony, as they are satisfied that the optional tenure would be productive of the most prosperous settlers and be most beneficial to the colony."

Copies of this resolution are to be sent to the Premier, the Minister for Lands, and the Member for the district.

Mr Bicheno, of Waitara, is at pre.scnt relieving master at the Eltham road school.

Mr Hooker, Truant Inspector under the Board 01 Education, was on a visit to Opunake last week. The store at Te Kiri, which was recently burnt down, has been re-crec-ted on the main road. It is understood that Mr Organ, the late proprietor, ha» sold out his interest in the store,
