RAHOTU.

tROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT. On Thursday night the last of the series of socials that have been conducted during the winter months by Miss Honan, took place in the Ra hoiu Hall, and proved most successful. There was a very good attendance, and one and all enjoyed themselves. The music was supplied by M' Knowlc, in that gentleman's well known style, whilst the floor was in perfect order. Mr James Barr made an efficient M.C., and kept things moving brickly. During the evening, songs were rendeied by Miss Honan and Mr Kelly, and a recitation by Miss W right. About 11 p.m. an excellent supper/ provided by the ladies, was done full justice to, after which dancing was resumed and kept up with vigor until about 2.30 a.m. Extras were played by Miss Honan.

The Rahotu Rifle C'ub held another competition (or the Riflemen's Kit on Saturday, and this proved to be the last competition for that trophy, as it was won by Mr H. Baker, who already had two wins to his credit, and thus becomes the absolute owner of the kit. The shooting, considering the beauiiful day, was rather poor. Groom, the popular nurseryman of this township, leaves here on Monday for a holiday of about a month's duration in the Nelson district. The local tin-can brigade wi'l, it is understood, give him a cordial welcome on his return. Mr L. If. Bell, of PuniTfo, occupied the pulpit at the Church of England service on Sunday, but owing to the inclemency of the weather, there was rather a small attendance. We are pleased to hear of the appointment of the Rev. Fisher to this pari»h, but it is understoood it will be some time before he arrives.
