The bakers of New Plymouth in tend putting in a team to contes. the. tug-of-war event at the forthcoming garden party to be held at- tin Recreation Grounds 011 October 10 and will bo represented by Hie following:—A. and I'. Lealnnd, J. S-ag-poole, C. l£. Jeffreys, E. May, Thompson, E. Billing.
The country teams will have to be ill rare ietiie' if Uicy want to hold their own against the town teams in the tug-of-war event, as it is reported 1■ 1 itl one it'wn U'am have, after tearing up wad e.earival lighting poles, applied to the borough Council for the use of their 150-1011 traction engine, as this is the only means by which they can got a satisfactory practice. Another team from the vicinity of the Breakwater is reported to have recently hauled a steamer from off a sand bank I
The American pony to be uhx! at the Garden Patty will arrive in New Plymouth during the present week. Mr Robert Sole, blacksmith, has kindly offered to keep the pony shod while in New Plymouth.
The Spons Committee desire that parents will deck their children out in fancy costume for the occasion.
