AUSTRALIAN PREFERENCE PROPOSALS.

AN OBNOXIOUS SCHEME. Stdset, September 27. The amendments in the Preference Bill limiting preference to British vessels manned exclusively by white seamen, is adversely criticised in commercial circles. It is considered it would help to bring Australia into disrespect among investors. Mr G. H. Keul in an interview, said the tendency of such a proyision would be to set tne whole world against us, and carry bitter racial war to extremes. it would shock the common intelligence of humanity and raise the strongest indignation in the Mother Country. It was quite conceivable that the British Government would claim the right of refusing preference concessions coupled with such a condition.
