PRESIDENT AND SUPPORTERS RESIGN.
Received 26th, g.26 p.m. Havana, September 2(1. President Palma, the Vice-Presi-dent, and their supporters in the Senate and House of Representatives have decided to resign. LESS CHEERING REPORTS. REBELS GETTING OUT OF HAND. Received 26th, 11.27 p.m. New York, September 26. The Hon. Mr Taft complains that the Cuban Government is resorting to petty obstructions in order to retain office, rendering it difficult for the United States to avoid intervention, since Paima had rejected an honourable compromise. Investigations showed that the last elections were thoroughly rotten. Mr Taft fears the insurgent commanders have lost control of the rebels, who are becoming lawless bandt.
Under the compromise suggested, Palma retained the Presidency, with a new Ministry. President Roosevelt appealed to Palma's patriotism, urging the acceptance of the terms. The battleships Indiana and Kentucky have been ordered to Cuba. Fifteen hundred additional marines and two thousand bluejackets are aslembling, making 7000 Americans ready to land.
