STRATFORD.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) The second annu.il spring flower show in connection with Si. Andrew's Presbyterian Church was held on Friday and Saturday in Mr Brayshaw's showroom, and on both days was well patronised. Although rather lalo in the season for holding a stow, then: was nevertheless a splendid collection of bulbs and cut llowers. These were only for exhibition. no prizes being awarded. . Besides the exhibition of flowers, there was also a sale of work, presided over by Mrs I'trie, whilst the refreshment stall was in the capab'e hands of Miss Budd, M.A. A most amusing part of the evening's enter tainment was the hat-trimming by gentlemen, and so unique were some of the designs that seveia! of the. designers have had good offers for their services from local milliners. The flower committee comprised Mesdames Betts, MacKay, and Miss Thompson, and Messrs \V. ]. B.aysliaw and G. A. Officer. On Friday evening the Municipal Band, under Bandmaster Grubb, played a selection of tunes outside the showrooms. 1 understand that the nett proceds amounted to over ,£l2. The Stratford Horticultural Society's spring show of flowers and bulbs was held in the Town Hall last Thursday. The show was a great success. Much of the success was due to the energetic secretary, Mr 11. N. Liardet. At the conference of the Licensed Victuallers' Association, he.'d in Wellington last week, Mr W. P. Kirkwood, of the County Hotel, w'as elected a vice-president.

There was on view in the technical school last Thursday the work of the pupils of the District High School, which is to be forwarded to the Christchurch Exhibition. The work comprised hand-painted cards, carton-work, graphs and drawings, and was very creditable alike to pupils and teachers.
