ILLEGAL OPERATION VICTIM.

INQUEST ON DECEASED. Per Press Association. Duncdin, September 24. An inquest was held to-day touching the death of Margaret Kcndrich, a single woman, 35 years of age, and housekeeper to her brother, who died in the hospital on Saturday morning. Dr. Evans, in his evidence, said he had been called to attend deceased on the igth, when she was in a state of collapse. She at first said she was unable to account for her position. but ultimately she admitted certain things to him in confidence. She admitted an illegal operation had been performed in a back room of the sfcop of J. R. Hayne, a chemist, in Princes street. He attended her in the hospital, and in reply to her question, he told her he thought she had little hope of rcc v::y. She said her whole trouble was due to a yo.ung man who was an engineer on the Moeraki.

Dr. Roberts, who had nnde a post mortem, gave evidence that death was obviously due to septic infection, brought about, in his opinion, by ex ternal means.

Dr. Williams gave corroborative evidence.

The inquest was adjourned till Friday.
