STRATFORD.
(From Cur Own Correspondent.) The technical School Committee met last night. The chairman (MrC. D. Sole) reported re swimming baths. The Borough Council w-uld grant no monetary assistance, but probably would give water free. He thought the committee might proceed with the work of excavation. After desultory talk the matter was held in abeyance till next meeting, Messrs Reid, Bean and Soul being appointed a committee to confer wilii Borough Council representatives ! The Superintendent of the Technical School submitted his report. In ter alfa, he reported that he had visited during the holidays the Technical School, Wellington, and had been courteously received. The sewing class at Stratford was a great success, although other classes were being carried on at a loss.
Regarding a gymnasium class, Mr Bean reported that Mr Fryer, when interviewed, thought the matter shou'd better be held over until the arrival of Mr Hunter, who might probably be able to take up the buties of instructor. Messrs Bean and Sole were appointed a committee to report on the matter next meeting. The Rev. J. M. Thompson then moved that a time-table should be placed before the committee showing the work done by teachers in the District High School and the Technical school.—lt was decided to get the lime-table. Re the letter from Mr Spencer, In spector, about another class, Mrs Mackav said the children had enough to do now, and Mr Bean emphasised this remark by saying they had far ;oo much to do. After the meeting of the Technical School Committee the monthly meeting of the District High School Committee was held. On the minutes being read, the Rev. Thompson objected to their being confimed. He said a resolution asking Mr R. H. Bligh to address the school children in the school had been rescinded without clue notice being given to members of the Committee and that therefore that part of the business was irregular. The Chairman (Mr C. D. Sole) said that Mr Thompson had better let the matter drop. They had heard enough of it. and no good could come through any more discussion on the matter. He ruled that the meeting was quite regular and was going f o proceed with the next business when Mr Thompson moved, That the minutes b" not confirmed unless that portion relating to the rescinding of the resolution asking' Mr Bli'gh to address the pupils be rescinded." Mr Bean seconded the resolution, and other members supporting it, the resolution was carried. Thursday, 20th September.
