MIDHIRST.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Mrs Wing Kcc lost a valuable young cow supposed to have been poisoned by eating some poisonous bush. An entertainment took place in the Town Ha!i on Tusday night in aid of the Midhirat school. The amusement was provided by the Salisbury Road Sunflower Nigger Minstrels, who kept the audience in roars of laughter from start to finish. The school funds benefited by about ,£4. Scarlet fever is reported to have broken out in the locality. Mr G. Smith is having his shop enlarged to cope with the increase of business, which is very brisk in this township now. Mr "Teapot'' Roberts, of New Plymouth gave a lecture on Monday night in the Wesley Church, Mr Mail presiding. The lecture was one that at times made one's hair stand on end; at other times caused considerable laughter—in fact, some of the audience are laughing yet. Mr Ro berts claims to have had, for many ! years, communications with his broI ther in America, 7000 miles distant, ' every night before going to bed. One ' of our local storekeepers was deeply interested. Most likely he thought it wouM be a splendid means of com ! municating with some of his erstwhile customers, who have done a moon- ' light flit. The meeting concluded with cake and hot supper provided by Misses Lawrence, Keightly and De may, which was appreciated, as it was a bitterly cold night.
