18 PIGEON SHOOTING CRUEL?

At the Po.icc Couit t ■ day, judgment was n-s'-rvid in the ca»e brought by the Society for the Pre vention of Crue ty to Animao against a participant in a recent pigeon shooting mutch, for cruelty in wounding a pigeon. There was a considerable am <unt of levity in the proceedings. The society's inspector admitted In- had uckied trout in the Old Country, though he cal'.ed himseii a spoit. A witness for the the Rev. O'phert, cons.dered even shooting wild pigions for sport was cruelty, although not if they were wanted for food. He did not object to the destruction of rabbits if done painlessly, and admitted having shoe birds for food himseii.
