A MALICIOUS LIBEL.
A "CECIL S" CHASTITY IMPUGNED.. DEFAMER SENTENCED TO SIX MONTHS. Received iyth, 11.14 p.m. London, Sept. ly. Matilda Stanley, once organist at Hatfield House, was sentenced to six months at Old Bailey for publishing pamphlets alleging that Lady Gwen do!en Cecil had a baby to the Rev. J. Edwards ,the late Lord Salisbury 's chaplain.
The judge, in passing sentence, remarked that the accusation was a most malicious and perfectly groundless libel, and amounted almost to blackmail.
