At the Police Court, Percival Jobi Hughes, styling himself Professor n! herbubstic medicine, was charged *it% receiving 10s from Elizabeth Tripp cn terns requiring him to aecount for tb< tame and failing to do so. Hughecalled at complainant's place, and an dertook that his medicine would d< good for a woman who was suffering from consumption. After negotiating lie agreed to supply the medicine for oand was given 10s. He promised thai the medicine and change would be delivered in threc-qaarters of an hour bnt complainant had not seen him untii she saw him in Court.

Her grandson had qpt hold of the parcel and tore off the address apd burnt it, and she was unable to deliver it. She brought the parcel into Court, and on being opened H was found to contain medicine. The Professor's reason for bringing her th< parcel instead of delivering it was, ane (aid, because be had been called t< another patient. Mr Graham, S.M., said he was quite satisfied there was no fraud, and the pise would be dismissed. It was a pity the police had not been told of the eyidcnce for the defence.
