URUTI.
(Our Own Correspondent.) Quite a number of farms have changed hands here lately, and several new settlers will soon be among us. One settler sold out one day and was deeply regretting it the next. On looking round for another place he found that lie could not buy as cheaply as lie had sold. Our factory is now in full swing and has already sent a load or two of butter away. The milk carls are rutting up the roads a bit, but they are in better order now than they were last year about this time. There is a scarcity of labour here. Men arc wauled for both the Co-opera-tive work and for bushlelling, but are net to be found. The footballers' social came oft on Wednesday night, and as the weather was perfeat, a good crowd turned up, nearly the whole of the settlers in the valley being present with their families. All had a most enjoyable evening, riongswere given by Misses Joll, J. K. Joll, and Stockley, and Mr Aroa ; and a recitation by Mr V. Hunter. Dancing was kept up until about three in the morning. Miss May McKenzie supplied excellent music on the piano and Mr McDonald on the violin. This was the most successful social held here for some time.
Tho Farmers' Union held a meeting last Saturday, when it was decided to hold a social early next month. The secretary (Mr F. Hunter) tendered his resignation, as he is leaying shortly lor Australia. This was accepted with regret. Mr Hunter has proved himself a real live secretary, and the Union will loose a yery active member. T." Davis was appointed in his place,
