(Pei Press Association.) Received 15th, 8.44 p.m. Sydney, September 15. At Rose-hill, Miss King ran third in the Hurdles. She held the lead on the second round, crossing the last fence in company with the winner, Rata. Received 17th, 12.37 a.m. Sydney, September 16. It is reported that Lord UHin's Daughter will cease her preparation for existing engagements, her trainer believing she wi 1 break down if training is persisted in. Rumour has it that Maniapoto is amiss. Colour is lent to the. report by his absence from Rosehill yesterday. TURF TOPICS. (Bv Moturoa.3 Waikato is being worked the other way round on the local course, wilh a view of competing at the Avondale Meeting. E. Russell is putting Southern Cross into work again. The gelding was brought in from Omata last week, where he has been enjoying a lengthy spell. Waitara's New Zealand Cup Candidate, Star Rose, is much fancied for •that event in some local quarters. The mare is trained by C. Parker, and has been responsible for some good track work. Mr R. Morrow, of Rahotu, has sent Okoari on another visit to San Fran at Hawkes Bay. Paul, who ran third in the Maiden P'ate atMarton, is a three year old gelding by St. Paul from Motto, dam of RusUtpie, who may do better later on in the season. Another inmate of J. Thacker's stable is a promising looking gelding by Waiuku out of Bounce s dam. The youngster is not quite two years old, but is very well devoloped for his age, and, with ordinary luck, should turn out to be something pretty good . Multifid is again in work on the track, after being absent for a fewdays. His leg has been giving his trainer a little bit of trouble.
I'arilutu is still striding along well in his work, and doing all that is asked of him.
Paritutu and the SouU colt have gone to Auckland to fulfill their engagements at the Avondale Meeting. The colt is engaged in the Avondale Stakes.
A recent advice states that Solution has been backed for the Melbourne Cup at /jooo to £4O. Slow Tom lias been taken up again, after enjoying a short spell. Latest advii'S from Sydney state that Solution is now a strong favour ite lor the Metropolitan Handicap at jto 1. The mare has nol incurred a penalty in that event by her win 111 the Rawson Stakes. Royal Scot, who was recently backed to win about ,£IO,OOO for the Epsom Handicap, is a four-year-old gelding bv Wallace—Mercy Merr.ck. The sum of passed dirough the totalisatur during the two days for the Marton Meeting, being an increase over last year, s meeting of £.SSij. F. D. Jones expects to be back in New Zealand in time for the Cup meeting. ~ J. liovd, who got smashed up whuc riding Matatara at the Marton Meeting, is reported to be making a rapid lecoverv. Prelude (Merrie England—Prologue) has been relegated to the stud; she will probably be mated with the imported horse Kilcheran. Phaetonitis and Ability (says a Canterbury correspondent) are to be sent home to their owner's place at Oamaru to be spelled till the beginning of the year. Apa ran badly in the Cioftun Handicap on the hist day of the Marton Meeting, being in the ruck all the wav, but the gelding had no difficulty in winning the Marton Handicap ■ n the second day without an effort.
Returned visitors to the meeting state that Armistice was the only one of the Cup candidates to show up at all prominently, the others being somewhat on the big side. Solution had a good field against her when she scored her victory at weight for age in Australia, and as she practically c.'tme home by herself attention has been drawn to her engagement in the Metropolitan Stakes, I of Sst 2lb.

Noctuiform gave us a surprise, and Mr G. G. Stead has another of the same kind, without any good two-year-old record, to run this year. Huascar is a Hotchkiss, and is getting along in his preparation at Randwick. Whether he can successfully engage Col'arit, Antonius and co. is a problem that is not easy of solution just now.
