FANCY FAIR.

The fancy fair held at the Queenstreet schoolroom, under the auspices of tho Good Templars, on Thursday ifternoon and evening, was a most successful affair. The schoolroom had been tastefully decorated with (lowers, eyergreens, and bunting along the walls and ceiling. The floor |space around the walls was fully taken up with stalls. The woalth of goods laid out on these stalls testilied to the good work done by the ladies and others responsible. The Mayor (Mr E. Dockrill), m a pleasing speech, opened the fair, and soon the building was busy as a bee hive.. An army of young ladies, tastefully attired in fancy costumes, were particularly successful in their canvass (for customers, and each and every stall registered a splendid days "takings" at the close of the evening. We understand that the funds, which totalled a eonsiderable amount, will be devoted in part to temperance work. The balance will be donated to the funds of a Good Templar Orphanage at Sunbury on Thames, England, an institution supported entirely by temperance lodges. During the evening the scene was a very animated one. Mr Golding's orchestra, composed of Messrs Deare (flute), Golding (piano), and Salt (violin), played some nice numbers. A lengthy vocal programme was also submitted and much appreciated. The following is the list of stalls ani stallholders :

Jumble Stall: Mr Higgs. Fancy Stall: Misses Ivy Cock and Alice Legg. Plam Stall: Mesdames G. Cock, Legg, Stokes, and Bruce. Doll and Flower Stall: Misses Edna and Olive Cock,

Refreshments: Mrs G. Hartnell and Miss Cole.

Lollies, Fruit and Jellies: Misses L. Bruce, Evett and Kirby. Treasurer and Doorkeeper: Mr Wm. Hooker.
