Mr Henry Brown, of Inglewood, was around here last week on business connected with the Opunake Sawmilling Company. The Hall Committee are having some a'terations made to the Rahotj Hall. It is the opinion of a good many that the time has arrived when an effort should be made to build a new hall suitable to the requirements of a growing district. The usual meeting of the Band of Hope was held in the YVeslcyan Church on Wednesday evening last, *he Rev. H. Foston presiding. There was a very good attendance, and an excellent programme of songs and recitations was given by the children. Mr John Clare of Opunake, had a narrow escape from a serious accident whilst riding into the townsh-p on Saturday. His horse fell on some loose metal and threw him, almost depositing under the feet of a horseman ridingalongsidehim. Fortunately he escaped unhurt, though his horse was cut about considerably by the Icose metal.

Mr Jack Guy, one of the members of the firm of Guy Bros, who recently disposed of their butchery business, has purchased a farm on the Pari-j haka road. Hemingway, of the Rahui road, met with an accident last week, as the result of which he has had to be removed to the NewPlymouth Hospital.
