THE "DOG-WATCH" DISPUTE.
NO SETTLEMENT ARRIVED AT GENERAL STRIKE FEARED. Received nth, q-5° p.m. Newcastle, September n. The management of the Miners' Federation discussed the Mainland trouble, but did not arrive at a decision. They meet again tc-morrow. The executive of the Proprietors' Association also discussed the matter. The meeting adjourned to Sydney on Thursday. It is considered significant that the Federation did not order a levy on Newcast'e miners to support the Maitlanders. It is persistently rum oured that this portends a general strike at th" Newcastle pits.
