STRATFORD.

(From Our Own Cot respondent.) There are many pretty gardens about ."Stratford, but for neatness, design and bloom there is none 1 "have \ei seen to compare with that of Mr George Otlicej". A well known New Plymouth P -ident who visited Mr Officer's garden this! week was loud in his praise-, and stated that no gar den in New Plymouth, as far as he had seen, bad such a wealth, of bloom. Last year Mr Officer' had eii.to on two hundred visitors, and if the teacher- of the Uistiiet High School would inspect lliis garden and h ain a few wrinkles they would. I am sure, improve the present sta»(;' ftif 1 the school gardens. Alts Jack I lower, 1 regret to say, ha- been seriously ili, and was on Thursday last taken to the New Plymouth Hospital. Alter a period of nine years' confinement to the house, ]\lr Charley Ktodte, ot T"ko, passed peaceful'!}" away last night. Mr liatey, manager of the Stratford fanners' Co operative Dairy Co., informs me that all the company's creameries are now running" daily, and that the milk supply compares more than favourably with that at litis time last season.

Tin* Slr.iM'ord District llitfh School ic-o]>"tied today, ;»mj. u \vi'"k\s holiday. Mr Jd>t'|)h Hunter, jun., M.A., from Otago, who was refill ly appointed first assistant, commenced duty, and his appointment will doubtless pove of great service to ;cachp

ers here who wish to raise their classifications. For sumo time, Mr F. A. Tyrer, the headmaster of the schocil, has been endeavouring to have a class formed at Stratford for teachers desirous of obtaining their C certificates, and his endeavours are now likely to meet with success. Mr Hunter gained first-class honours in Mental Science, and lie has informed Mr Tyrer lie will be pleased to take charge of a teachers' class for Mental Science and Advanced English, so that teachers who wish ta avail them selves of this opportunity are requested to forward their names to Mr Tyrer without delay. Everyone interested in the cause of education will hope that this class wi'l prove the success it deserves to be. The success of Mr Huniside's pupils at NewPlymouth last year should act as ail incentive to teachers of this district. Mr Fred. Goocli has been invited by the Tnranaki Agricultural Society to take his well-known trotting stallion Voung Victor to the horse parde to be held in New Plymouth this month. At the recent trotting meeting, held at Manaia, 2Qth August, 1906, Young Victor made a disinguished record, carrying off one first and two second prizes, competing against horses brought from Auckland and also Christchurch.

Mr Goocli lias been repeatedly requested to travel Young Victor between Stratford and Hawera districts, but lias decided to do as lie did last season. viz., stand Young Victor at the Empire Stables, as lie has received promises of hearty support. Mr Donald, of New Plymouth, Inspector of Factories, was in Stratford to-day in connection with matters concerning his department, and ai'.so with affairs concerning the forthcoming Christchurch Exhibition. Mr J. G. Harkness, secretary to the New Zealand Dairy Association, was also a visitor to Stratford today.

I regret to learn that Mr Sam Robertson, who met with a painfull accident some months ago, and who has since then been an inmate of the New Plymouth Hospital, has had his leg amputated. Much sympathy is expressed for Mr Robertson and his family.
