At the Farmers' Union Conference to-day, Mr Phillip-3 (Auckland) moved: That while the Union avoids taking any part as a Union in .party politics, every real political question may, and should be taken an interest in, and bp discussed at branch and other meetings. The President expressed the opinion that the line for the Union to follow, was to lake a side in politics only on the ground of principle, and when the principle was gained, to resume a noncommittal attitude. Mr. Clayton" (Poverty Bay) urged ■that if* the Union was to become a power in the laud, it must take decisive action. The motion was carried. The Union resolved that local bodies diould be given power to appoint ono )f the assessors at the Assessment Kevision Court in districts affected, and hat no valuer should be appointed under the Valuation of Land Act, unless he possesses local knowledge.
