RUSSIAN AFFAIRS.
A MURDER AVENGED. Received c, 10.42 p.m. St. Peteesbckg, Septeuib r 5. A pobeeuian was shot at Wcnden, Lavonia. A punitive column demanded the surrender of the murderers. The people replied they did not knosv him, as he was a stranger. Forty-nine were thereupon arrested, despite their protestation of innocence. The whole male population was summoned to the scene of the murder, where the commander of me column selected two old men and a youth and . shot all three. He announced that in the event of another political murder, nine would be shot, and in the event of the third, twenty-seven would have to answer.
REVOLUTIONARIES SENTENCED. St. Petbbsbcrg, Sept. 5. A courtmartial at Riga sentenced twenty-four revolutionary leaders to hard labour, ranging from two to fifteen years.
