A PUNGABEHU TRAGEDY.
A SAD AETAIK. A message from Pungavehu reports a pathetic tragedy Mrs Humphries, lyif l of the school leaeher at Pnngarchu, left her home with her infant phild at: i' o'clock 011 Monday niorni:i"-, and, not returning, search'was mule! both bodies being recovered in a creek near by, under conditions suggesting that the hapless mother committed suicide and destroyed the life of the child. Tho deceased, whose parents live near Maiiau, was confined a couple of weeks ago in New Plymouth, and only returned home on Saturday with her baby. A little low in spirit- »ie attributed to natural causes, and (here was no indication that she meditated taking the course which has ended so tragically aud caused such a profound sensation throughout the distri-i. Great sympathy is felt for Mr Humphries, both he and his late wife haying been very well liked by all.
