TARANAKI TEACHERS' INSTITUTE.
A meeting of the ffew Plymouth centru ot the Taranaki Teachers' Institute was held on Saturday. Mr 0. Johnston was elected chainif.in, and Mrs Dowling secretly; cornmilee, Miss Baillett, Messrs Dcmpsev, I'enlinglon, Pope, arid Mcllroy. It was decided to hold meetings monthly at 11 a.m.., on ".cheque day, ll the next meetnig to be held on September 2o,th. Mr Pcnlington suggested that the three branches might be brought together, proposing that in'er-branch debates be held < n educational subjets, and ,on the suggestion of Mrs Dowling, it was decided to initiate the idea in this centre.
The subject for discussion ;it next iv.i'CtinH will he, "Is (Grammar Necessary in the Tcucliinjf of Composition?'' The discussion will embrace the teachers' own ideas of how to teach composition. Thfi matter of nrrauffinfi- the boundary of the district was referred to the committee.
