RESCUED FROM THE DEBRIS. COLLAPSE OF COPPER MINES. LARGE NUMBER OF FATALITIES. GHOULS AT WORK. REFUGEE HARDSHIPS. Rceived 24th, 10.26 p.m. VALPARAISO, August 24. Dynamiting of ruins in Valparaiso released a man and his wile, who had been entombed for four days.
During the shocks the Catomon copper mines collapsed and thirty seven were killed.
Thirty-eight out of forty telephonists in Valparaiso were killed. The President-Elect's residence collapsed. His wife fell from the balcony to the street, where thieves cut off her fingers and ears to secure jewellery. She was apparently dying and was conveyed to a warship.
