A MIRACULOUS ESCAPE.
PEE PEESS ASSOCIATION. Auckland, August 24. A., remarkable accident, w'licli, but for the prompt action of an engine driver must liave terminated fatally, occurred at Morningside, Miss Smith was a passenger by nino o'clock 'bus from Eiagsland to Avondale. At one ■point on the route, the road crosses, the railway line, and when crossing the driver of the 'bus failed to notice an approaching tram. The passengers however, saw the danger and called out. The 'bus got clear beforo tho train reached Ihe crossing, but in the excitement of the moment, Miss Smith essayed to jump and fell across the line. The engine-driver of tho train fo tunately saw the incident, and immediately applied tho brakes, with the •esult 1 hat when the engine reached he lady, it was going at a v,Ty slow pace, and the cowcatcher p ishod her out o£ .dangn l . She, however, sustained a number of bruises and is suffering from shook.
