PETROLEUM.
The shatc list if tho Taranaki Oil and Freehold Company, Limited, closes to-morrow.
On Thursday wc had an opportunity of inspecting a sample of mud from a hole dug oa one of the properties over which the Inglewood Oil and Prospecting Company has boring rights. The material, which smells strongly of petroleum, was obtained at the shallow I'epth of only two feet below the surface. A post that had been in the ground for years was taken up the dher day, and the soil attaining lo it was found to be strongly impregnated with oil, whilst the post itself seems saturated with it. These excellent indications are found between the Durttam and Norfolk roads. Applications for shares are now rolling in freely, and the directors expect the capital will be over-subscribed.
