FARM AND DAIRY.

There is considerable riva'ry be. tweon the Kaupokomii Cs-opera'ive Fuctoryand T. L. Joll's private factory, two of the largest dairy factories m the province. A few years agot -' Kaupokomii was much.the stronger r' roncorn, but steadily its district was" involved by the private faotory, and, helped by discord amongst Iho share, holders of the other, Mr Joll cut right • into tho other's stronghold, and erected (a mile from tho main Kaupokomii factory) a factory of his own, as well as planting creameries in territory hitherto confined to the co opetativo factory. As a result, the private conoern's output last year was considerably greater than that of Kaupokomii, which, however, is apparently going to make a bid to regain supremacy in the district. A meeting of shareholders ion Wednesday decided to outer the 'enemy's camp and erect a creamery at Kapuni, which has always stood to the private company. The motion was as follows:

" That this meeting views with alarm that policy now adopted by Mr Joll of buying and leasing so much land in the Kaupounui district, which formerly supplied Kaupokonui with milk, thereby increasing the cost of manufacture to the shareholders and suppliers of Kaupokonui. We are, thereforo of the unanimous opinion that it will be in tho interests of the Kaupokonui Dairy Co. to extend their operations and buill a cheese factory at Kapuni with the least possible delay, as an increased supply to us means a less cost to the manufacture of our output. Therefore, as the Kapuni suppliers liave guaranteed us 700 cows if we would build them a cheese fao. Tory, and this before we sold our sea. son's output, it is at once apparent that they aro earnest in their request to us. We therefore recommend our directors that they forthwith appoint a oommittee of progressiva men to choose [lie site and erect a cheese factory at Kapuni this season with the least pos.. sible delay." Mr Joll is not to be outdone, how- *-■ over, for he has expressed his intontidn to erect a factory closo io. the Kaupokonui main factory, and -is already ac A quiring the land for the purpose. Things should be rathor interesting in. tho locality in tho immediate future.
