RACECOURSE TRESPASSERS.
BOOKMAKERS FINED AND IMPRISONED. PER PRESS ASSOCIATION. CHRISTCHURCH, August 21. Mr Bishop, S.M., to-day fined s;v eral bookmakers from £$ to j£io for trespass on the Riccarton Racecourse during the Grand National Meeting. One man was sent to gaol for 14 days. Mr Bishop said he felt it an pleasant duty to fine and imprison these men. It was not his bpsiness to criticise the action of the State in legalising the totalisator, and he must enforce the laws. He would be lenient with first offenders, but when men time after time defied the Statute law of the country, he must be strict with them.
