THE GAMBLING QUESTION.
PEE PKESS ASSOCIATION. WELLINGTON, August 21. At the annual meeting ut the Uellington Racing Club to-night Uie chairman said that not a racing club in New Zealand paid a dividend to members; every shilling eamed by the totalisator was returned to the public in buildings and conveniences, and went to the advancement of the sport. He did not know of any instance of a person taking cash from his employer to bet on the machine. The evils of gambling were in the bookmaker and the tote shops, Which were the curse of the country.
