B ■ (From Our Own Correspondent.) Mr Jacob Rothery, chairman 01 the Parihaka Road Board, whose health has been very indifferent foi some time past, was removed to the hospital last week. His many friends wish him a speedy recovery. Kahotu is still .progressing. Mi T. P. Hughson is having his drapery department enlarged, and Mr Alex. Baker is building a new residence on the Kahui road. For some time past settlers have been compelled to drive cattle foi impounding purposes to Opunake, ;, distance of about 10 miles, as there was no public pound in Rahotu. This difficulty has been overcome bj the Parihaka Road Board erecting a pound in a very convenient position alongside the salcyards. The pound is now completed, and will beavailable for use as soon as it is gazetted. Another of the series of assemblies was held in the Rahotu Hall on Thursday evening, and was well at i tended. Mr James Barr-Brown , made a first-class M.C., whilst excel- ! lent music was provided by Miss ; llonan, Miss Morgan playing scvera' extras. | The young ladies of Rahotu an giving a return ball to the bachelors on Wednesday, 20th inst., and arc leaving no stone unturned to ensun ' its success. ! The Ake Ake (Rahotu) Football Club are again winners of the Des Forges' Cup, having defeated Pihama, winners of the Southern division, by six points to nil, after a very good contest. This is the third season that Ake Ake have held ■ the cup. They are celebrating theii victory by a social, to be held earlv m September. ! A petition asking the Government to open up the Carringtcn road from New Plymouth to Opunake is being freely sgned. There is no doubt this road would be of immense benefit to the district, as it would open "up a lot of land, besides easing a good deal of traffic off the present main road. The members of the Rahotu Rifle Club held a competition on Saturday at the local range for a rifleman's kit. The conditions were 7 shots each at 200 and 300 yards ranges, and the competition was won by E Harrison. J. Colmer put on the possible at 200 yards. The following are the scores:—E. Harrison, 31 at 200 yds, 26 at 300 yds (handicap 9) —total 66; J. Colmer, 35, 27 (scr)— 62; W. Green, .31, 23 (8> —62; A. Chapman, 32, 27 (scr)—s9; J.
