H.R., fori warded a letter from the Premier, declining to authorise a deviation of |j the Lepper road south, the District r lioad Engineer having informed him 0 that there was no physical reason why the road should not be constructed as _ a first-class road in time. Middleinas wrote that he j. had raised the price of stone taken t from his pit, and the Board would be . charged 3s (id instead of Us 3d per f ya , r ;'' . The chairman complained that the , owner of this pit had sold to a county [ contractor a quantity of metal that , should really have been supplied to j the Board. ( Mr Ilenwood said that it was of . little use for a man to think he could make a " corner " in stone, and recommended opening another pit. OVERHANGING TItEES, Mr Kenwood moved that public . notice be given to all occupiers of land to cut back to the boundary line aU overhanging trees. He instanced : several cases where these wore ruining 1 the roads by keejiirg out the sunlight, and considered settlers should, for the sake of the roads, need no second d mand. Mr Chimney thought such a policy would lie objectionable, as it would mean the ruin of all the good shelter oi l some farms. Mr I/aunuiee agreed, There was no seconder. Tin: youk koad. Mr Hoby brought up the almost im- . passable stale of (he York road, and i anil complained of the recent decision j of Ihe Board in making the Lincoln and \ ork road accounts into one, al- ' though it was one continuous mad. The V ork road ratepayers wanted the bulk ( ol their rates spent at their own end of 1 Ihe road, ami under the present system the money seemed to be going on the Liucohl road.
