AUCKLAND v. TAEANAKI. [Br Wike.—From Oub Special.] - Auckland, August 17. The Itarawa made a good passage and the team had a splendid trip up. Representatives of the Auckland Rugby Union mot the , Taranaki men at Onehunga, and took them for a drive through the city. The team has been invited to visit Wisemans' saddlery, where they are to be presented with leather hat bands in the Taranaki colors. To-night the team were the guests of the Bugby Union at the Theatre. .Practice was held this afternoon, when the men were all well, except Abbott, who is still a bit sore after the knock he received in the practice gamo at New Plymouth on Thursday. The weather is glorious and a record attendance is expected at the match to-morrow (Saturday). The members of the team are delighted with the hospitable treatment they are receiying. _ The Wellington High Schools combined, play a match against the local High School, during the early part of next month. The local boys are now putting in plenty of practice Writes our Koru correspondent:— The match of the season was played here on Saturday between Omata and Koru. When the " sawdusters " took the field they found themselves face to face with a team comprising the picked men from the Star seniors and Tukapa, but true to the traditions of Koru the " sawdusters" toed the mark and said " let them all come." The game was fast and furious from start to finish. The " sawdusters " had the best of the first spell. In the second spell the better knowledge of the game and the grand combination of the visitors were too much for the " sawdusters," who suffered their first defeat by 12 points to nil. For the visitors, Thomas. Seamark, Glynes, McCullum, Stohr and Bradly, were the most conspicuous. Among the " sawdusters" the unusual sight was witnessed of a father and two sons playing together. The home team's forwards were far too good for the visitors, and carried the ball all iver the field. I hear a return match is to be played, and there are bags of money waiting to back the "sawdusters." The " sawdusters " play the. Okato team at Koru to-day.
