.At a meeting of the electors of Dimedin Central last night, says a Press wire, it was decided to entertain the Hon. J. A. Millar, at a social on Tuesday, and present him with an address Tho Premier and other Ministers are to be invited.

One of the veterans who took part in the recent Taranaki veterans' rifle match was Mr E. Armitago, who is now past his 86th summer, and is still hale and hearty. So much so that he is able to work at the last at his son's shoemaker's shop. He went right through the Taranaki campaign, and distinguished himself on several occasions, particularly at the famous reka light. It is worth noting that Mr Armitage's father lived to be a centenarian.

We hear that a movement is on foot to make a presentation to Mr Henry J. H. Okey, late county chairman, and the candidate of (he Farmers' Union at the late election. For some time past the friends and supporters of Mr Okey have desired to express thoip appreciation of him, |but from various causes the movement has been delayed. Some leading members of the Farmers' Union have now taken the matter up and it is expected that the testimonial will be in some degree commensurate with the valuable services rendered by Mr Okey for many years on numerous public bodies. It is said that the presentation will be made by Mr Massey on his way to the meeting of Parliament—that is about the 21st. instant.

Mr F. Cornwall, of Bell Block, has been selected as judge in the jersey caitle section, at the International A. and P. Show in Christchurch in Novembci>next.
