INGLEWOOD NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

Another of the scries of progressive euchre parties in connection with the local Convent School was held on Thursday evening aud proved to be one of the most enjoyable held here. Three rows of tables were lined along the floor of tho hall and were mostly occupied. Play was kept up until about 10 p.m., when supper was handed round The winners were Mrs Curd, Miss Jlonuood and Messrs 11. Brown aud Flatiz. The prizes being For the ladies, tea set and inkstand ; •md tor the gentlemen, a silver match bix aud n silver pencil. The hall was then cleared for dancing, about thirty couples occupying the floor, which was in good order. The music was supplied by Mr Rounlreo, of Stratford, and gave every satisfaction. Mr A. V. Caldwell performed the duties of M.C. in a first-class manner.

An accident happened on the Durham Road on Monday evening to Mr ! Mr J. Bennett, who, in company with his daughters, was driving along the Iro id when a cyclist, who was without a light, caused the horse to swerve up a bank, The result was that the vehicle was overturned upon the occupants By almost a miracle no injury was sustained by cither Mr Bennett or his daughters, although the trap was considerably damaged. The same evening a party were driving along the Mountain Road when the horse shied at a sack of chaff that was lying upon the road. One of the party was thrown out but escaped without injury.

It is understood that both the Moa aud Maketawa dairy factories have sold their butter output for the coming season, but the prices have not yettranspired. Feed at present is nt a very low ebb around here, the paddocks being quite barren. The cold weather at present being experienced does not tend to improve matters. The erection of the new Bank of New South Wales is progressing rapidly. When completed, th'i building should be a handsome addition to the town.
