OF INTEREST TO FARMERS
PER PRESS ASSOCIATION. Auckland, August 3. A recent message from Wellington states that it was the intention of the Government to amend tho Act so as to provide-tor the slaughtering of'pigs at abbatoirs, and this matter was discussed by the Ayicullural and Pastoral Association to-diy. Mr R. Hull (President), said this was an important nutter for farmers, who were not allowed to kill pigs on ther farms. No doubt the Department was right in protecting the public against diseased meat; still there should be no needless I restrictions placed on farmers. The • secretary said ho had seon Mr Ritchie, Secretary for Agriculture, who said ihat if the flux were left in tho pig's carcases, the meat could be properly inspected for disease. Mr Walters said the proposal would kill tho pork industry, and ho did not believe that there was much disease amongst pigs in Auckland. It was resolved to express tho opinion that some method of inspecting pigs should be deyiso.l, whereby, while fully protecting the public, provision would,bo made enabling farmers to continue killing a limited number of pigs on the farms pjr week.
